The ways of bearing fixation

The fixation of a bearing,namely,the ways of motion of the rolling bearing.

There are three main types of bearing fixing:

1.Fixed at both ends;

2. Fixed at one end and swimming at the other end;

3. Swimming at both ends.

1. Fixed at both ends

The short axis (span of 400mm) under normal working temperature can choose the simpler form that both ends are fixed in one direction.

The fixed supports at both ends generally consist of symmetrically arranged angular contact ball bearings or tapered roller bearings. During installation, adjust a ring of the bearing axially until the proper clearance or the required preload is obtained.

2. One end is fixed and the other end is swimming

When the shaft is long or the working temperature is high, because of the large amount of expansion and contraction, it is advisable to choose a form with one end fixed and one end swimming to ensure the free expansion and contraction of the shaft. (It can eliminate the adverse effects and damage caused by thermal expansion and contraction.)

Due to manufacturing errors, the shaft center distance supported by the two radial bearings and the center distance of the bearing seat are usually not exactly the same. The increase in operating temperature will also change this distance, so a floating bearing is needed to compensate for this error.

N-type and NU-type cylindrical roller bearings are ideal floating bearings. The rollers and cages of this type of bearing can move on the raceway in the bearing ring without ribs. Other types of bearings can be used as floating bearings only when a ring is loosely fitted, such as deep groove ball bearings and spherical roller bearings.

3. Swimming at both ends

It is a very economical way to use the floating support at both ends on the shaft that does not need to be tightly positioned.

For shafts that require left and right bidirectional swimming, a shafting structure with both ends swimming can be adopted, such as a pair of herringbone gear shafts. Due to its own axial limiting effect, their bearing inner and outer rings and axial fixation should be designed to ensure that only one of the shafts has a fixed axial position relative to the base, and both bearings on the other shaft must It is swimming to prevent the tooth from jamming or uneven force on both sides of the herringbone tooth. At this time, the bearings at both ends are not subjected to axial force.

Deep groove ball bearings, self-aligning ball bearings, and spherical roller bearings are most suitable for floating bearings. The fit of one of the two rings (usually the outer ring) of these bearings allows axial movement. Tapered roller bearings and angular contact bearings are not suitable for use as a medium-thickness qualified for swimming, because they must be adjusted to ensure normal rotation.
